Made by the bride, for the brides

I had the privilege performing for the Menu Tasting of Britannia Yacht Club before the start of this wedding season. It's more than a gig for me, but rather, a special event that makes everything seem a bit more real and exciting. As I indulge myself in a community of pre-celebration of love, I feel so happy and proud, to be an upcoming graduate of Class of 2026 Brides!
All the song selections for the event came from the Top 10 requests I have collected over the years. Every song I played, there was a bride walk in my head and love story in my mind.
What would be the song for your entrance? You ask. Well, instead of telling you this is an ancient Chinese secret, I want to say it was from my first wedding gig I played here in Ottawa. A bride in 2017 requested a unique melody that I had never heard before, but the more I listen to it, the more it felt like home.
I fell in love with the music so quickly that I told myself, if one day I got married in this town, it would have to be this song. At that time, I just moved from GTA, freshly single, not sure if I would call Ottawa home, but it just felt right to plant this spontaneous seed of will. Over the years, as I discovered more of the characters from the song's origin and various renditions of the music, the more resonated I feel - this is me and I will walk every spirit of it with this particular rendition.
Almost a decade apart, I still owe that bride an appreciation for making this song a special place in my heart. The gratitude extend to every single bride that I have served, for their trust in having me handle one of the most critical parts of their entire wedding, and for their inspirations in helping me (slowly but surely) come up with the playlists of my own wedding, from ceremony, cocktail hour to the dinner and dance.
Every love story is different.
Every ceremony is different.
Every bride is different.
One thing we share in common, is that we are brides! We share the same type of process and emotions leading to the big day: fantasy, excitement, planning stress, anxiousness towards unexpected changes, relief, fulfillment of "yay, this one, check mark."
I'm grateful as vendor being in this industry, which has constantly shown me a whole new world of human connections and has inspired me so much from every couple's experience.
I'm also grateful as a bride-to-be in this fast as lighting yet never ending planning stage, for the new empathy and lens to all my current prospective clients.
That said, I've been so happy to see my double roles complement each other, which has made what I do even more meaningful and inspiring. This year in particular, I caught myself asking more frequently these questions to myself:
"If I were them, what would they need from the vendor in making this decision in this scenario?"
"If I were them, what would my guests probably want to hear at this particular moment of my own wedding?"
In reaching out to my vendors, I also applied the same principles how I wanted to be treated as a vendor. One day I'll probably write another blog post about wedding planning and vendor review. More to come for sure ;)
